Servana vs Thumbtack: A Free Alternative With No Lead Fees
Thumbtack sells you a chance at a customer. On Thumbtack, you pay for each lead. The price depends on the job and the price range you set. You're bidding against other pros for the same homeowner. Servana gives local service businesses (cleaners, plumbers, trainers, photographers, and more) their own booking page with an AI chatbot that answers questions and books jobs 24/7, for free. You're not renting attention anymore. You own the page.
The real difference, by category
Pricing
Thumbtack's per-lead model means your cost scales with your growth. The busier you get fielding leads, the more you're spending, and a chunk of what you pay covers leads that never book (a “bad lead” credit process exists, but it takes time and doesn't always work). Servana's booking page and chatbot are free to claim and run. There's no meter counting up every time someone's interested in your business.
Who's actually talking to the customer
On Thumbtack, the homeowner is on Thumbtack's site, comparing you against three other pros mid-search. On Servana, the customer already found you (Google, a referral, a QR code on your van) and lands on a page that's entirely yours, your reviews, your services, your voice, with a chatbot that can answer “do you serve my zip code” or “how much for a 3-bedroom deep clean” without you picking up the phone.
Speed to answer
Leads go cold fast. Thumbtack leads arrive in your inbox and wait for you to respond like everyone else's do. Servana's chatbot responds the second a visitor lands on your page, day or night, the “always open” version of your business.
Effort to get started
Thumbtack requires an ongoing profile + bidding rhythm. Servana auto-builds your page from your business's existing public info (Google Business Profile data, reviews, service list), claiming it is mostly confirming what's already there and fixing anything missing.
Who Thumbtack is still right for
If you're brand new with zero online presence and need volume of first-time discovery fast, Thumbtack's marketplace traffic is real and immediate. You're paying to be found by people actively searching right now. It's a legitimate channel, just an expensive one per booked job over time.
Who Servana is right for
Businesses that already have some presence (Google reviews, a Facebook page, word of mouth) but no dedicated booking page. Servana turns that existing interest into actual booked jobs instead of losing it to a plain phone number or a "message us" DM that goes unanswered for a day.
Customers can also search Servana from ChatGPT or Claude, so your page shows up where more people now ask for local help.
